At Murphy & Son, our commitment to sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint is at the heart of our operations. As part of this mission, we’ve established a returnable drum policy to ensure the responsible reuse and recycling of our containers.
Why Recycle Your Murphy Drums?
Our drums are designed for multiple uses, significantly lowering the chance of reusable plastics ending up in landfills or incinerators. For over 30 years, our drum return scheme has enabled IBCs and drums to be reused and recycled countless times. After each use, we carefully wash the containers to prevent contamination, extending their lifespan and reducing the environmental impact of producing new containers. Once their lifecycle ends, we ensure they are recycled, further minimising sustainability challenges.
How to Recycle Your Murphy Drums:
- Contact our sales or transport team to schedule a pick-up for your used Murphy Drums or IBCs.
- Thoroughly rinse out all chemicals and liquids from your Murphy Drums or IBCs before collection.
- Pack your drums securely on a pallet as outlined in our ‘How to Pack Your Drums’ guide below. We can provide shrink wrap upon request to ensure the drums remain secure during transit.
- We’ll collect your drums at the scheduled time. Meanwhile, take a moment to relax and appreciate your contribution to recycling multi-use plastics. We truly value your support!
How to Pack Your Drums:
- 25-Litre Containers: Arrange in a 4×4 layout with a minimum of 16-32 units per pallet and stack no more than 4 drums high, totalling 64 units.
- 200-Litre Containers: Place a minimum of 2 containers on a pallet with a maximum of 2×4 per pallet, totalling 8 units.
If you have a small number of containers, we can accept a pallet with fewer items within a 12-month period, in line with our return policy.
Drum Condition:
Please ensure that drums are returned in good condition, free from heavy soiling, discolouration, or contamination. We cannot accept drums contaminated with substances like diesel, petrol, white spirit, or antifreeze, as our equipment cannot process these. Containers that pose a risk to our employees, equipment, or the environment will not be accepted.
Please note, we only accept cans supplied by Murphy & Son, so containers from other suppliers will not be accepted. For more details or to schedule a collection, please email us at transport@murphyandson.co.uk.
Together, we can make a significant impact on sustainability in the drinks industry. Thank you for helping us keep the cycle going!
